Need A Scrapbook Journaling Idea

posted by admin

Try using song lyrics in your next layout.

Song lyrics can be a great source of title and page inspiration for a scraper.

Music and songs play an important part in our lives. Hearing a song again can evoke a lot of emotion, bringing back fond memories of special times, special people and special places.

Of course, different songs mean different things to different people - but you can use songs to ‘tap’ into those memories to create unique, and highly personal scrapbook pages.

How do you use lyrics on your pages?

Well, here’s a scrapbook journaling idea for you to try using a wedding layout as an example.

If the bride and groom have their own ’special song’ then you use that to add a personal touch. If not don’t worry find another suitable song instead, there are lots of song lyric web sites on the internet that you can browse.

Pick a section from your chosen song for example, the first verse of “A Groovy Kind of Love” by Phil Collins and journal the lyrics around the edges of your page.

Then embellish your border with some appropriate wedding stickers, die-cuts or punches. Tie it all neatly together, by using the title of the chosen song as the accent title for your layout.

What about a friendship page? You could use some of the lyrics from “You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King, maybe decorate your border with musical notes.

Doing a page about someone’s birthday? You could journal the words from “Happy Birthday” and embellish the border with cakes, candles or other birthday memorabilia.

Don’t limit yourself to just a section of a song, use all of it if you want to.

Write or print out the complete song lyrics onto some nice paper and add it to your page. If you don’t have the room left on your album page make a pocket envelope to put your song sheet into.

You can apply this scrapbook journaling idea to any kind of page theme, not just the ones listed here as examples.

There have been tens of thousands of songs published over the years covering all sorts of subjects - the possibilities for the resourceful scraper are endless.

Just make sure that the song title or lyric you are going to use is suitable for the theme of your layout and you’ll soon add a quick, simple and memorable piece of journaling to your page.

Scrapbook Journaling - The Five W’s

posted by admin

Scrapbook journaling is one of the primary components that sets a scrapbook apart from a plain photo album. Pictures by themselves tell a certain amount of the “story” behind the pictures, but journaling can bring the pictures to life.

What is journaling?…

It’s very simple actually. Depending on how involved you want to get, it can be a simple statement of facts about an event or as heartfelt as a love letter.

When you think about it, the true purpose of scrapbooking is to serve as a sort of family history and while books full of pictures are nice, it’s even nicer to have the memories to go along with them. Plus, how are your great, great grandchildren going to know how much you enjoyed your trip to the Grand Canyon, if you don’t provide them with the nitty-gritty details?

The key to successful scrapbook journaling is to keep a good record of your events.

So, next time you go to a birthday party or a family reunion, keep the Five W’s in mind and jot down a few notes to keep the memories fresh in your mind.

  • Who: Who is in the pictures? Who is taking the pictures? How are they related to each other?
  • What: What is happening in the pictures? Is it your child’s first birthday, a wedding or an Easter egg hunt?
  • When: When was the photo taken? At the very least, try to include the month and the year, but if it is detailing a birthday celebration, include the specific date. You’d be surprised how the details get lost in the shuffle 100 years down the road.
  • Where: Where is the event taking place?
  • Why: Why is this event taking place?

Now, scrapbook journaling is not always about “just the facts”. It’s also important to convey your feelings about the event when scrapbooking

  • How did you feel when your husband proposed?
  • How you felt when you children were born?
  • How proud you felt when your son/daughter graduated?
  • These are just a few examples. If you’re willing to pour your heart out onto paper, you can use your scrapbook as a bonafide journal/diary.

It’s hard to believe that my husband and I will be celebrating our 25th
wedding anniversary this year. We are having a dinner party at the church where
we got married. I’m already planning a scrapbook of the event. Here are some of
the things that will be included. Maybe you can get some ideas here for your
    next celebration.

    1. Digital photos

My sister will be bringing her digital camera. I want to get a picture of every
family or couple who attends. In my scrapbook, I will write who they are and any
special memories about them. I will also be taking pictures of the church, even
though it has been totally remodeled since we were married there. Pictures of
the cake and dinner food will make a nice addition, along with a copy of the
menu and mention of who catered it.

    2. Guestbook pages

I’m not sure what type of guest book we will have. If it is already in a nice
album, I’ll make a copy of the pages for my scrapbook. One idea would be to have
pretty guestbook pages in a looseleaf binder. Then, I could just take them out
and put them in a plastic sleeve in my anniversary album.

    3. Invitations

A copy of the invitation will probably be the first page of my album. On the
other side will be an original invitation from my wedding.

    4. Then and now pictures

I want to take picture copies of my wedding showing my husband and myself, my
parents, bridal party, and special guests. Across from each of these, I will put
pictures of these same people now. There will be captions under each picture,
identifying the people, and writing something special about them.

    5. The album

The pages of the album will be wedding-type scrapbook paper. My favorite color
is pink, so there will probably be a lot of that color in the pages. The
pictures will be spaced so there is room for a paragraph or so to describe each.
Finally, each page will be in an acid-free, archival quality plastic sleeve for
    preservation and protection.

If you are planning a celebration of any kind this summer, let your imagination
go free. Come up with ideas of pictures, scrapbook layouts, and written
descriptions that you will treasure for years to come. It will provide you with
many hours of enjoyment and memories.
